This perennial will reach about 4' tall and has blue green leaves with bright green flowers that bloom from late winter to early spring.

New Zealand Flax

Common name:New Zealand Flax
Botanical name:Phormium tenax

New Zealand Flax is a large, bold plant with stiffly vertical, sword-like, green leaves that arise from its base. It should be grown under full sun for best color. Varieties will offer different growth habits and leaf color.

Allan Bloom Hybrd

Common name:Allan Bloom Hybrd
Botanical name:Achillea 'Moonshine'

Long, straight stems with pale yellow flowers are apparent on the mats of green to grey-green leaves of this plant, which are flatter and less divided than those of the Achillea millefolium. The yarrow propagate easily from rooted cuttings or division, which should be performed in the early spring or fall. Following bloom, one should dead head the plant and divide the clumps when it appears crowded.

Catmint

Common name:Catmint
Botanical name:Nepeta X faassenii

Nepeta faassenii makes soft, gray green, undulating mounds that are 1.5' high when blooming. The small leaves are attractive to cats. This perennial has lavender blue flowers in late spring and early summer.

Variegated Italian Buckthorn

Common name:Variegated Italian Buckthorn
Botanical name:Rhamnus alaternus variegata

Evergreen shrub grows to 6-8' tall and wide. Leaves edged with creamy white. Remove the green shoots when they appear or else they will take over plant. Needs little or no water.

Johnson's Blue Cranesbill

Common name:Johnson's Blue Cranesbill
Botanical name:Geranium 'Johnson's Blue'

This herbaceous perennial is a favorite among geranium lovers. It grows up to 18" tall and 2'-3' wide. Saucer-like, violet-blue flowers bloom from spring through fall. The leaves are bright green, finely cut and quite divided. Plant in full sun or half sun. It looks good in rock gardens, borders and containers.

Compact Myrtle

Common name:Compact Myrtle
Botanical name:Myrtus communis 'Compacta'

This evergreen shrub is 6' high and 5' wide with aromatic leaves. It blooms with white, sweet-scented flowers followed by bluish black berries. It can be grown in sun or partial shade; well drained soil is essential. 'Compacta' has smaller leaves and is often used for edges and low formal hedges.

Soils and Compost:

Practice grass-cycling by leaving short grass clippings on lawns after mowing, so that nutrients and organic matter are returned to the soil.

Water-Saving Tip:

Fix leaking sprinklers, valves, and pipes.

One broken spray sprinkler can waste 10 gallons per minute - or 100 gallons in a typical 10 minute watering cycle.

Integrated Pest Management:

Drip and other smart irrigation delivers water directly to roots, allowing no excess water for weeds.
